Chris is currently the Headteacher of a primary school in an area of high deprivation on the outskirts of Bolton. He joined the school in September 2018 when the school was rated as ‘Requires Improvement’ and has brought about rapid improvement to secure a ‘Good’ inspection judgement in January 2020, with the Ofsted team recognising the ‘considerable improvements that leaders have made since the previous inspection’.

Chris has strong leadership and management skills has a clear vision which have driven the shift to a self-improving school culture, founded on strong core values were staff have an authentic input into shaping the direction of improvement for the school. Ofsted recognised that ‘leaders inspire staff in their work’ and the ‘leadership team ensures that its own high expectations are understood by everyone at the school.’
A strong knowledge of the school inspection framework, a results driven approach and a range of sound school improvement strategies combined with innovative, evidence based CPD have dramatically improved the quality of teaching and learning in a short space of time. This is evidenced through the Ofsted inspection, a robust assessment and monitoring programme and significant increases in key assessment data for 2019 with a 35% improvement at the expected standard for reading, writing and mathematics combined at key stage 2 typifying this focus on outcomes.
Since 2018, Chris has expertly led the school through a significant period of change which has included several LA reviews, a Safeguarding review, essential security improvements to the school site, recruitment of new staff, a staffing restructure and ‘designed a new curriculum that is well planned around the needs of the children’ whilst a managing to ‘ensure that teachers are well trained to deliver the planned curriculum’ as recognised by Ofsted. More recently, Chris has successfully navigated the period of uncertainty owing to the Coronavirus pandemic and led the implementation of a remote learning offer that the overwhelming majority of parents are ‘very satisfied’ with.
Prior to his current role, Chris was the Assistant Headteacher at an outstanding primary school in Bolton where he gained teaching experience across key stage 1 and 2. He demonstrated his strengths as an outstanding year 6 teacher with experience of delivering a whole school inclusive curriculum with a particular focus on EAL (English as an Additional Language) and INA (International New Arrivals) pupils, leading middle managers in delivering a robust assessment and monitoring timetable and leading a variety of subjects.
