MH02 Improving Behaviour for Learning - Turning on the Learning Brain

Overview

This course seeks to look at better understanding of challenging behaviour alongside some practical strategies to manage in-the-moment conflict and prevention, in order to improve the quality of learning in the classroom.

School Impact

Post Covid schools are seeing more and more children struggling to co-exist, play and socialise effectively. The result is more distress and more conflict. The aim of this course is to give a better understanding of why this is happening, which parts of the brain and nervous system are driving the behaviours and how to communicate with them.

It will give some practical, verbal and non-verbal tools to de-escalate those conflict situations that arise, but more importantly how to prevent children’s learning brains going off-line.

The course will cover:
• How windows of tolerance affect escalating behaviour and how children process language and learning.
• What part of the brain and nervous system is driving the behaviour and how do we communicate with it.
• Keeping the learning brain on-line.
