Rosenshine’s Principles of Direct Instruction training aims to empower educators with a comprehensive toolkit based on instructional principles, fostering an environment that supports improved teaching practices and, consequently, enhanced student learning outcomes.

NB. In order to get the most from this training suggest staff have access to copies of Rosenshine’s Principles in Action Workbook by Claire Grimes and Tom Sherrington’s Rosenshine’s Principles in Action books. These can be purchased from Amazon for approx. £5 and £10 each.

By the end of the course colleagues will be confident in:
• Clear Instruction - emphasis on providing clear and explicit explanations of new content.
• Teacher Modelling - demonstrating concepts and skills for students through effective modelling and worked examples.
• Guided Practice - providing opportunities for pupils to practice new skills with guidance and support.

By the end of Time2Train 5 & 6 you will:
• Complete activities 1 – 5 in Session 3: Questioning of Rosenshine’s Principles in Action workbook.
• Understand the importance of having prepared strategies to involve the whole class in questioning.
• Be aware of the importance of using questioning to check pupil understanding beyond the superficial.
• Begun to develop a repertoire of questioning techniques to use in the classroom.
• Understand how Probing Questioning and Process Questions can help to elicit learning.
• Have identified the key takeaways, any key actions and areas that you may need more support with.
