Overview

Supporting KS3 students to independently read complex academic texts using a range of strategies to improve fluency and comprehension.

• Have an overview of the national implications for improving literacy in secondary schools, with a focus on reading.

• Have a good understanding of how explicitly teaching reading skills in all subjects can support students’ comprehension of written text.

• Have a range of reading strategies and resources to use in the classroom that will promote independence and help pupils to actively engage with the texts they study.
